Chick-fil-A Spirit Nights
Hay Primary has one Spirit Night a month with Chick-fil-A, Erskine Commons. Fifteen percent of the proceeds go back to Hay and the class with the most in attendance for the Quarter receives a class party with the Chick-fil-A Cow! This is an easy night of no cooking, supporting the school, and connecting with other Hay families.
Parent Outreach Communication
This is a new program at Hay Primary where the teachers make 4 “positive” calls home per week. These can be done through phone calls, face to face meetings, email or notes passed through students in the agenda.
Parent Teacher Conferences
This year Hay had a 90% participation rate for conferences plus all of the parents that teachers tracked down afterwards. The teachers are very proactive; they track down the parents to make sure they attend and are abreast with the child’s education.
Parent Teacher Organization
Hay PTO meets monthly to discuss, organize, and fund student activities. This is also a time to hear from Mr. Johns regarding the schools’ progress and plans moving forward.
PTO raises money for Hay School to be spent as needed. Past purchases have included interactive whiteboards for the classrooms, a new sound system, listening centers for the library, yearly student agendas, classroom money for teachers and more.
PTO is always looking for parents or grandparents willing to donate their time and talents in supporting Hay Primary Center. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
Students receive a bag of popcorn once a month in celebration of their hard work. The popcorn is free to students and is funded by the PTO. It is popped by volunteers and is a great opportunity to meet other Hay parents and grandparents while connecting with the school.
Quarterly Family Nights
At Hay Primary we believe parents are an important part of their children’s education. To this end, we plan parent meetings that will give an understanding of grade level subject matter as well as tips to help learning continue at home. We believe learning does not end at the end of the school day and parents are also educators. All parents, guardians and significant family members are invited. Helpful tips, brochures, homework help, door prizes and snacks are offered at every meeting.
The PTO organizes two Skate Nights a year at USA Skate Center. Students enjoy socializing and skating while the adults take the opportunity to connect with each other and Hay staff.
The PTO organizes a canned food drive to support Hay School families in need. Nonperishable food and money donations are collected and food boxes are prepared along with the Student Council for the identified families to pick up before the Thanksgiving holiday.
